Year Ten Poetry Live

On the first of February, the English Department took forty year ten students to Leeds for "GCSE Poetry Live". This was a fantastic event where students were able to hear some of our country's best writers perform their poetry and discuss the creative process. Each poet offered useful insights into how to analyse and discuss their work as well as discussing the work of other poets in the GCSE anthology.

Students also benefitted from sessions led by a chief examiner for English Literature and received advice on how to succeed in their exams. They also heard performances from: Carol Ann Duffy (Poet Laureate), Gillian Clarke, Daljit Nagra, Imtiaz Dharker, Maura Dooley, Simon Armitage and John Agard.

We are very proud of how well year ten conducted themselves on the day. They made excellent notes, asked insightful questions and represented our school beautifully.
