Maths Challenge 2017

On Tuesday the fourth of July eight teams representing Catholic primary schools from all over Sheffield battled it out to be the 2017 Maths Champions. The teams, made up of six pupils of all abilities from Y3/Y4, had to work together to complete twenty increasingly difficult maths problems in as short a time as possible. They were allowed to use their joker three times, which allowed them to pass a question, but this did incur a time penalty (1 min each!). For over an hour the pupils busily worked together as a team, building on each other's strengths to find solutions to the questions. There were some excellent examples of team work around the room producing a very close contest between the top three teams. All pupils were very keen to do their best and it was lovely to see the excitement when they got a question correct, but there could be only one winner in the end and that was the team from St Patrick's - well done!
