Notre Dame Summer School 2021

Over the summer break this year we ran a summer school for students who joined us in Y7 this September.

A place was offered to all students in the year group and we had 154 students take up the offer.

We had not been able to run any face to face induction activities for large groups during the summer term, so the summer school was a great opportunity for students to get to know some new faces in their year group, get to know the school site and experience some preparation for the kinds of lessons that they would be having in September.

Students were in for a three day programme, with half of the students in from Monday 9th to Wednesday 11th August and the other half in from Wednesday 11th to Friday 13th August.

On the Wednesday, when all students were in school, we ran a community day with plenty of opportunities for students to get to know each other. This included a mini sports day in the afternoon.

On the other days, we ran a series of taster lessons, along with tours and other orientation work all designed to help students to feel ready to make a good start in September. Taster lessons included; Art, Drama, Baking, Languages, Science and some team building exercises with our DofE coordinator.

The summer school was run by teachers, learning support assistants and administrative staff from our school, with a total of 15 members of staff in school. We received a total of £14261 from the DfE to cover the costs of the summer school, with £600 being spent on resources and the remainder cover staff costs for planning and delivery of the event.
