Last week, Suzanne and our Year 8 Faith in Action students went on a journey to Doncaster to meet other Faith in Action students and their school chaplains. Together, they took part in their latest community outreach initiative, a fashion show!
The event was hosted at St Paul’s Catholic Church in Cantley, and its neighbouring community hub, the Neighbourhood Centre. Mrs. Fox, the volunteer lead at the centre, welcomed everyone and shared a message about the centre’s mission. She explained how the Neighbourhood Centre plays a vital role in supporting the Doncaster community, especially those who are on low incomes, receiving benefits, single parents, or those feeling lonely, isolated, or marginalised.
The centre provides access to quality second-hand clothing, household goods, emergency food, professional advice, and more, all in a welcoming environment where people can enjoy a chat and a cup of tea. As parishioners and local residents began to gather in the church hall, our students were invited to visit the centre next door. There, they had the chance to browse through donated clothing and select an outfit they felt expressed their personality.
The hall was filled with excitement and anticipation as our young people returned, smartly dressed in their chosen outfits, ready to hit the catwalk! The students walked in pairs and strutted across the stage to show off their outfits to the audience.
It was a joyful scene to witness and full of fun, and courage, especially from those who initially felt too shy to participate but were inspired to join in after seeing their classmates.
The atmosphere was warm, with enthusiastic applause from the audience of parishioners and community members. After the fashion show, everyone came together to enjoy refreshments, share conversations, and build new connections between generations.
To close the day, we had a special time of prayer together. Each student took a quiet moment to reflect on someone they wanted to keep in their prayers. They then wrote that person’s name on a tag and placed it on the prayer tree, a simple but powerful gesture of faith, and hope.
The day was a huge success, and it reminded us all of the power of community, kindness, and putting faith into action. We are excited to share that we’ve already been invited back next year!
What a fantastic event for a wonderful cause.
God bless,
Suzanne
