In Year 7 pupils complete five projects covering all five of the material areas of Design & Technology. Each project is taught for 14 hours by a teacher who specialise in that area in a fully equipped workshop. Pupils will rotate around the different areas. How you can help your child in Design and Technology:
For each project students will be given workbooks where they have to complete their written design work. You can check that they are completing the homework in these on a regular basis. Also ensuring that they have the necessary equipment and ingredients for the lessons would be a great help.


Food Technology, Textiles, Materials, Electronics and Graphics (GCSE)

In Y9 to Y11 Design and Technology is split in five different subjects: Food Technology, Textiles, Materials, Electronics and Graphics. How you can help your child in Food Technology, Textiles, Materials, Electronics and Graphics:
Check your child’s journal on a regular basis and ensure that they are completing the homework tasks set. Ensure that your child has the necessary ingredients and equipment required for all practical lessons. Support your child during exam preparation by encouraging them to stick to a set revision timetable.



Product Design (A-Level)

This course teaches pupils to initiate design solutions, develop and test working models and prototypes, develop and sustain imagination, innovation and flair when working with concepts and materials and more. To find out more about A-Level Product Design please click on the PDF below.

How you can help your child in Product Design:
Check your child’s project calendar and ensure that they are completing project sections and submitting for marking by the required deadlines. Ensure that your child has the necessary materials and/or equipment required for all practical lessons.
