Easter Celebration Assemblies

Last week, our school community came together for our Easter celebration assemblies, led by members of our Chaplaincy Team.  The focus of the assemblies was the theme of ‘hope’, alongside the question, “What does Jesus’ resurrection mean for us today?”

The Gospel reading was taken from St Luke’s account of the Road to Emmaus, a powerful story that reminds us of how Jesus walks with us, even when we may not recognise His presence.  As part of the assemblies, two of our students shared thoughtful and personal reflections on what hope means to them.  We are pleased to share one of these reflections below:

The Road to Emmaus is the journey of two men walking along a road.  A stranger joins them and starts talking.  It’s Jesus, but the men don’t realise it.  He is right there with them, but they can’t see who He really is yet.

When they sit down to eat and Jesus breaks bread, suddenly they realise, “Wait, that’s Jesus!”

These two men were unaware of His presence and blind to what was happening before their eyes; but once they chose to open their eyes and hearts, to recognise the truth and understand who He was, they knew it was Jesus.  And then, He disappears.

We can sometimes wander along the path of life feeling unsure, confused or sad, as though things don’t make sense.  You might not understand everything straight away, but something good can be happening and you don’t see it yet.

When you choose to open your hearts and minds to what truly matters, you will discover the Lord waiting for you.  But your eyes need to be open.

Life is often described as a ‘journey’. What kind of road are you on right now?
Who are the people walking alongside you in your life?
If Jesus walked with you today, what would you want to ask Him?

Ultimately, Jesus’ resurrection means that we are never alone and He walks with us.

Hope is always stronger than despair and our lives can be transformed when we recognise His presence.

Like the disciples on the road, we were invited to reflect upon where is Jesus walking with us right now and are we open enough to recognise Him?

The assemblies offered a meaningful opportunity for reflection and prayer, reminding us all of the importance of hope and openness to God’s presence in our daily lives.

We wish all members of our school community a very blessed Easter season.
