I am so proud to share that 11 of our Year 9 students volunteered and were selected to take part in an exciting new initiative taking place across the Hallam Diocese, called “Called to Action.”
This unique formation programme has been created in partnership with three Catholic organisations; the St Vincent de Paul Society (SVP), Pax Christi, and the Columban Missionaries. Together, they aim to inspire young people to live out their faith through fundraising, advocacy, and meaningful social action.
The programme includes three sessions, scheduled for November 2025, January 2026, and April 2026.
Our students were chosen because of their commitment to the school’s ethos and their passion for engaging in faith-filled service.
The first session has recently taken place at St Vincent’s Catholic Church Hall, where the Columban Missionaries led the opening workshop.
During this session, the missionaries spoke about their vital work supporting poor and exploited communities, promoting justice, and defending the rights and dignity of migrants and refugees.
James, from the Columban Missionaries, along with Fr Tim, guided our young people in understanding the fears, anxieties, pain, and uncertainty faced by refugees around the world, reminding us all that we belong to one human family.
Inspired by what they learned, the group has already begun taking action. They have prepared a proposal for Mrs Cleary, our Headteacher, outlining their own “call to action”, a plan to raise awareness within our school community and help others better understand the experiences of refugees.
I am incredibly proud of their compassion, leadership, and determination to make a positive difference.
Suzanne
