Over the past two weeks, students in chaplaincy have taken the lead in delivering Lent assemblies for all year groups. They clearly explained the meaning of Lent for Notre Dame as a Catholic and Christian school, helping everyone understand this special season.
During Lent, Christians across many denominations spend time praying, fasting, and giving. It is a period to reflect on where God is calling us to change and how we can live more like Jesus.
There are many ways we can give to others during Lent. This could be by donating food to a food bank, clearing out clothes or books to give to charity, fundraising for a cause, or donating directly to a charity.
This year, Notre Dame is focusing our fundraising efforts on St Luke’s Hospice in Sheffield. St Luke’s is a place where people who are terminally ill receive care and support. They also support families, ensuring everyone is looked after. St Luke’s provides a space for people to stay in the hospice, as well as outreach work in the community. Supporting this local charity allows us to make a real difference to people in our own community.
To help raise funds, there will continue to be cake and ice pop sales every Friday at 12:45 pm at the tech block, with everything priced at 50p.
As we journey through Lent, we encourage everyone to reflect: What will you do this Lent, and why? Let us pray that our prayer lives grow vibrant and strong, and that we receive the courage and strength to follow God, wherever He may lead us. Amen.
God Bless,
Suzanne
