The Teens Speech Awards – you ideas, your voice, your moment…
Are you aged 14–19 in Sheffield? Ever wanted to voice something that matters to you to the wider world? Well, now’s your chance…
Write your own 1–4 minute speech on any subject, in any style – serious, silly, surreal, bold, heartfelt, strange, political, funny… anything goes! You can enter the award whether or not you want to read at the Teens Speech event in February half term.
The awards, a fun and supportive young people’s speech event, will take place at the Barnsley Town Hall Council Chambers (think Parliament, but without the old men in suits… and with tasty refreshments).
Awards & Recognition:
There will be a Barnsley-only award and South Yorkshire regional award, plus highly commended and shortlisted acknowledgements. Readers at the event can also choose to have their speech recorded for a special podcast.
Need help writing or editing your speech?
Sign up for a free January writing workshop at Barnsley Civic or online, where professional writers will help you bring your ideas to life. No experience needed.
Deadline: 11th February 2026
