Mass of the Holy Spirit for the Commencement of the Conclave – 7th May, St. Marie’s Cathedral

Exciting times are unfolding for the Catholic Church as we stand together in prayerful anticipation of the election of a new Pope.

On Tuesday, 7th May, parishioners and other faithful people, gathered at St. Marie’s Cathedral for a special Mass of the Holy Spirit, marking the beginning of the Conclave which is a sacred moment in the life of the Church.

The Mass, celebrated with hope, called down the guidance of the Holy Spirit upon the Cardinals who will be entrusted with the responsibility of electing the new Bishop of Rome.

We were united in prayer and thanksgiving, offering petitions for wisdom and discernment.

During the homily, we were reminded of the importance of listening to the Spirit’s call, not only for the Cardinals but for each of us in our daily lives. The celebration was enriched with beautiful music, heartfelt prayers, and a shared sense of purpose, as we asked God to bless the Church with a shepherd who will lead with compassion, humility, and strength.

As the Conclave begins, we invite everyone to join us in continued prayer for the Cardinals and for the future of the Church. You may wish to use the following prayer, taken from the CAFOD website:

Let us continue to watch and pray in joyful hope as the Church prepares to welcome her new Holy Father!

God bless.
