Hallam Youth Prepare for Lourdes Pilgrimage

On Saturday afternoon, students from all the Catholic secondary schools in the Diocese of Hallam, gathered at St Bernard’s School, Herringthorpe, for a special preparation event ahead of the much-anticipated Lourdes pilgrimage, taking place from 26th June to 4th July.

The afternoon began with a series of team building games designed to help students get to know one another and feel more relaxed in each other’s company.

Throughout the day, a range of workshops were held to offer insights into what the students can expect during their time in Lourdes. They also explored the important role they will play in chaperoning and supporting their pilgrims. These sessions were ane opportunity for reflection, learning, and preparation, ensuring that each student feels confident and ready to embrace their responsibilities with compassion and care.

The afternoon passed in what felt like no time at all, and we concluded our gathering with a beautiful celebration of Mass, presided over by Bishop Ralph and concelebrated by Fr Lee. Mr and Mrs Loftus led us wonderfully in music and song.

The next time we meet together as a Hallam group will be in Lourdes itself! Our young people are full of excitement and hope as they look forward to reuniting as pilgrims of hope. This year’s pilgrimage feels even more special, as we journey together during the Year of Pilgrimage, declared by our beloved Pope Francis. May he rest in peace. Amen.

We ask for your prayers for all our pilgrims as they prepare for this life changing experience.

God bless.
